Micromax Rolling out Lollipop update for its Canvas Series Phones

Domestic devices maker Micromax has announced that the company will be rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its popular Canvas series of smartphones. Lollipop is the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.
Micromax on Tuesday announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop update rollout for its recently launched Canvas Xpress smartphone, which shipped with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out-of-the-box.
The update has been rolled out OTA (over the air). Canvas Xpress users can follow the simple process to get the updates on their devices. Users will get an update notification on their handset when they connect it to the internet and following that they can directly upgrade to the latest OS. Users can also check manually for the upgrade by going to the Settings menu, tapping on ‘about phone’ and then on ‘software update.’
While Micromax didn’t provide any change log for the update, a company statement said the update “will make the overall user experience” on the Canvas Xpress “more efficient and seamless.”
It’s not clear which other Canvas series phones will be upgraded to Lollipop. Micromax has also not announced a definite timeframe for the roll out.
The dual-SIM Micromax Canvas Xpress (A99) was launched in December carrying a price tag of Rs. 6,999. It features a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480×854 pixel) display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core (unspecified) processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. The two cameras on the Micromax Canvas Xpress include a 5-megapixel and a 0.3-megapixel shooters. The internal storage on the Canvas Express is 8GB, which can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB). The device is backed by a 1950mAh battery. Other features on the Canvas Xpress include 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS and FM radio.
Micromax is the second smartphone vendor from India after Intex to release the Android 5.0 update for one or more of its phones.
