Facebook has said it was reconfiguring its News Feed, in a move aimed at giving people more information about what is happening to “the friends you care about.”
Status updates, photos and videos shared directly by friends will be pushed higher up News Feeds, while news organisations and business pages may suffer promotion-wise as a result. While this may seem obvious, Facebook notes that many users like to read news or interact with posts from pages they have liked. This content will still show up in the News Feed; today’s update will simply try to be more strict about making “the balance of content the right one for each individual person.”
How will this affect your Facebook Pages? Facebook said that the distribution will vary depending on your audience and posting activity. For example, the post reach and referral traffic may decline if there are limited interactions. Facebook recommended Page owners continue to post “meaningful” content and consider best practices for driving referral traffic in order to avoid a decline in visitors.
User feedback to the social network revealed that people generally disliked being shown updates regarding their friends liking or commenting on posts, which will now appear lower down in a News Feed or not at all, the company said.
